A Burner I Shall Be! Again!

Travelled past Salt Lake City and across the Great Salt Lake Desert, Bonneville Salt Flats and over several mountain passes on the way to Winnemucca, Nevada. This is my jumping off place for the last day of travel to the playa. The gates actually open in 5 hours but I'm not too keen on sitting in a 10 mile traffic jam and setting up camp in the dark. I'll wait until morning, make 75% of the trip before purchasing my last provisions- gas, drinking water, beer and ice -and prepare for the last 60 miles or so which should take about 3-4 hours before I finally get through the gate. THEN I'll have to find a place to set up camp and call it home for the next week. Weather forecasts are for a cold, yes "cold" week at Black Rock City. They say 4 days of 70's with nights in the 50's or less and 3 in the 80's or low 90's with nights in the low 60's. Not bad for a place that is often 110 at mid-day. Somehow I don't think I'll be using all 24 gallons of water I'll be bringing... A shower tonight will be the last warm one for 8 days. I'm thinking night-time showers outside the T@B will be quick and cold this year. Word is that there will be even less communication to/from the playa than there was last year, which is to say 'none at all' so this will be the last post until Labor Day when I get back to this same campground and enjoy the wonderful experience awaiting in the concrete block shower building with the (gasp) flush toilets. I'll be back!
