The Cold Front

OK- so the rain caught up with me @24 hours ago, passed me by, then reversed direction and became a super wet warm front that will rain on me for another 24 hours. 10 miles south of here it has rained 8 inches in under 24 hours. I went shopping in Jupiter and found folding bicycle pedals for a good price. They should help reduce the footprint of my bike which I carry behind the seat of my pickup. My towing rig makes it tough to have a bike rack and the pedals will help me come closer to a solution with a full size bike. Then I did 3 loads of wash. Yeah! Sheets & all! After lunch I went for a drive up Jupiter Island to see how the other half live. At 35 MPH I rolled by hundreds of incredibly expensive mansions with showcase landscaping and big yachts in the back ‘yards’. Bentley’s, Lotus’s, and an occasional Rolls were seen among the more pedestrian B’mrs and Lexus suv’s. I stopped to look at an angry ocean with pounding surf for a while and then headed back inland.

Going over the Hobe Sound bridge it occurred to me that my family made the same crossing near here @53 years ago on a 12’ wide 1-lane wooden plank bridge with no curbs, rails or lines. I recall my mother crying, my father telling everyone to be quiet so he could concentrate as he drove with white knuckles, my sister on the floor with a doll and me taking pictures out the back window. I wonder where those shots are now? When we got back to Ft. Pierce and told my grandparents what we’d done my Grandfather took my Dad aside. It is the ONLY time I remember my Dad being ‘talked to’. I’m sure my mother said much more after us kids had gone to bed!

A shower and a movie in the T@B and the sound of rain should fill the rest of this day. It might be hard to get dry- humidity just climbed over 85% at 72 degrees.
