This trip is coming to an end but the end is not without drama. There has been a bad winter storm with blowing and drifting snow at home. I intended to be back on Wednesday but decided to wait out the second day of blowing and drifting so that I didn't have to drive on snowpacked interstates and have some hope of actually getting home with pickup & T@B intact. My biggest fear is that I'll get all the way to my driveway and not be able to get in. We live in the country and it is normal for the roads to be clear but for us to be stuck with 3ft drifts in both drives. It is important that I be able to get the T@B back into the barn so it can be protected and plugged in while it is stored. By all reports I'll be able to get in- barely.
Tonight, Thursday night, I'm staying at a motel about 100 miles from home to avoid hitting icy patches in the dark and because 450 miles is plenty for today. I stopped to get winterizing antifreeze, drained my freshwater tank and dragged anything that could freeze into the motel room. I went cheap on the room which means I've already taken the heater apart to fix it and I'm considering going to the T@B to get some earplugs since the heater sounds like a B17 on the runway when I put it on high speed. The plan is to sleep late and try to drive home during the warmest part of the day with hopes that the road salt will have more time to dry out as many remaining icy patches as possible. Forcast is for 12-16 degrees tonight.
So. Here ends the winter trip to rainy Florida and the South. Next up: Another try at sunny Florida in 6 weeks or so with Beth and then both us retirees will head for New England this summer!
