The French Quarter

I'm camped at Bayou Segnette St. Pk. which is @10 miles out of New Orleans. Very nice campground with lots to do. Drove to the Algiers ferry (parked for free!) and took the free ferry right to Canal Street. Walked all over the French Quarter and ate dinner at the Acme Oyster House (thanks for the tip, Gary!) My how the Fench Quarter differs from my last visit on a Sunday afternoon with small children! I hope to go back tomorrow but it is supposed to rain after noon and the place is filling up with Saints & Vikings fans for the big game on Sunday. Don't know if I can take that much concentrated rah-rah & "who dat?". I need to find my next destination since Sun, Mon & Tue are unreserved- I may just head down into Florida where it will be warmer!! Going to put the good internet connection to good use while I have it!.

Since this didn't post when written I'll add Saturday's adventures. Put the new bike together and it will be great when the fog lifts (again!). Drove to the French Quarter in case I had to bail out due to rain. At "Mother's" I ate a po-boy, bread pudding (you were right Kelly!) and added a cup of crawfish etouffee. Mega yum. Waddled on up Canal St. and hopped on the St. Charles trolley car and rode through the Garden District as I digested. The architecture here is astounding! Sometime I'll have to come back and take some serious tours. Returning to the French Quarter I walked over to the Cathedral through pre-playoff game craziness and a lot of folks stocking up for Mardi Gras which is only weeks away. I saw dozens of street artists, musicians and ran into the dreadlocked masses.

A curious event then took place. I inadvertently stepped on some girls foot that was dangling into my path and she went off on me with great fervor. I stood and listened and after she asked me if I had gotten the point I told her I did but that what we both probably needed was a big hug. She started crying, gave me a huge hug and then started hugging everyone in sight- which was about 200 people on the sidewalk alone. I moved on astonished at the application of Playa psychology I had utilized without thinking. I looked back after walking about a half block and it looked like there was a serious love-in taking place. That was happening because I was too clumsy to miss an errant foot?!? Talk about the butterfly effect! Hmm...

On the way back I picked up some fresh shrimp, cocktail sauce and slaw. Good lower cal eats! An apple, a tiny bottle of red wine and a movie after this. Cheers!
