In The Mountains

8/21, 11AM No WiFi so I’m writing for later posting. If my times don’t match the blog site times that is probably why. Truck did fine over Berthoud Pass except I found that I hadn’t completely closed the fridge so my recently purchased frozen food was all over the inside of the T@B. Gave a T@B tour as I cleaned up to a pair of 60-ish sisters in a turbo Subaru that zipped past me on the way up and zipped by with hands waving on the way down. I’m camped on Lake Granby just outside Rocky Mtn. National Park. Nearly empty at mid-week, I recall this campground as densely forested but the pine bark beetle has destroyed the majority of the pine trees here and 95% of the trees here have been cut down for safety’s sake. The tradeoff is that there are now incredible vistas of the mountains and the lake. It rained at campfire time and then went down to 38 degrees last night under clearing skies with incredible stars. Too cold to look for very long! Walked the campground and the lakeshore this morning and plan to take an afternoon hike in the Nat. Pk. and catch a bite in Grand Lake before trying to have a fire tonight.
